Paulista: ""On Saturday we have another battle to recover the lost points"

Gabriel Paulista spoke after the 3-1 loss to Sevilla and gave his assessment of the midweek away game.

Self-criticism

If we want to be at the top, we cannot start games the way that we did today. The first few minutes were a disaster, starting with me. I can't start the way that I did either. I accept my share of the blame. We have to recover these lost points and on Saturday we have another battle to face. From the first game, our mentality has been to get the club back into European positions, and playing the way we did today will not take us far.

Fixing mistakes

I am the first to hold my hand up. It's easy to talk when you win. I have also made mistakes that I shouldn't, because I am a good, high-level player. In general, we have to improve a lot. We started LaLiga well and now we have two defeats in a row. Against Real Madrid we give away the points, and today we did as well. Against teams like this, nothing can be given away, and we gifted all three goals. Now we have to work. On Saturday we have to recover. We are going to have a much better game than the last two, together with our fans. The players are going to be more focused and we are going to make sure that the three points stay at Mestalla.

Confidence in the team

We have to tell it like it is. If we are not doing well, we have to talk about it. But it's not a case of us not being able to cope. We can. We have a good team. Defeats hurt us a lot, but we have a long way to go thi season. We are going to recover and pick ourselves up. Each of us has to be self-critical, and work harder in training sessions and games. We are only at the beginning of the competition and we will get back to our best.
